Biomass Fly Ash as a Catalyst In Biomass Gasification Reactions for H2 Production

Short Introductive summary

Gasification of residual biomass can be a promising source of green hydrogen, addressing the current challenges of energy transition. In this context, new strategies must be found to improve producer gas quality in terms of H2 concentration. Several catalysts can be employed to this end, including synthetic materials or natural minerals, but the costs of production and the need for ore extraction hinder their application. Biomass fly ashes (BFA) are rich in alkali and alkaline earth metals, species known to have catalytic activity in several biomass gasification reactions.Therefore, the main purpose of this work was to analyse the potential of BFA granules to be used as a waste-derived catalyst for gasification reactions, namely the water-gas shift (WGS) reaction, boosting hydrogen production
