Pressurized Water Scrubber for Biogas Upgrading - Design of a Dynamic Simulation Model

Short Introductive summary

The global transition to renewable energy sources has led to the need for alternative technologies to replace fossil fuels, with biogas emerging as a promising substitute. The research project "Hy2BioMethane" combine a pressurized water scrubber for biogas upgrading and a trickle-bed reactor for biological methanation. The project’s innovation is the direct use of CO2-loaded water from PWS’s absorption column as CO2-source for the biological methanation process. A dynamic simulation model of PWS was developed as part of the project, aiming to optimize scrubbing process efficiency and ensure effective CO2 removal from raw biogas. The model was compared with measurement data from a PWS laboratory plant. Furthermore, a control strategy was implemented to adjust the water pump power depending on the characteristics of the incoming gas volume flow of PWS.
