Study of Anti-Clinker Additive for CHP Fueled with Wood Chip

Short Introductive summary

The biomass gasification and power generation plant utilizes combined heat and power technology and is intended as a renewable energy source for local production and consumption. Nonetheless, most Japanese cedar harvested in Japan contains a high level of potassium in the ashes, leading to clinker issues, which are clumps of ash that combine with potassium carbonate and calcium carbonate and melt. Alumina-based and magnesium silicate-based additives were found to function as anti-clinker agents and inhibit ash melting, as reported in our fundamental studies. Tests were conducted in this study to assess whether batch feeding of an anti-clinker additive into the fuel chips of a spanner reformer is effective. We manually fed a paper bag containing 100 grams of talc into the chip inlet via the fuel feed port every 30 minutes. This method revealed that ash melting suppression, which can lead to clinker concerns, was achieved. We believe this finding to be an important achievement that can be expected to improve operation over a long period of time by installing a feeder that can continuously supply additive talc.
