The Effect of Acid Wash on Gas Purification in a Biomass-Based Post Combustion Unit

Short Introductive summary

Amine-based chemical absorption is the most developed state-of-the-art technology, currently being tested in high TRL post-combustion capture pilot plants. However, amine solutions are susceptible to degradation and are corrosive to metal surfaces. One of the more promising developing methods to treat post-combustion CO2 lean gases is the packed-bed acid scrubbing method. This work describes and highlights the results of a comparation between several different wash treatment methods and their characteristic features. The experimental findings showcase the performance of the wash section through a variation of acid concentration, different flow rates and operation parameters of a thermal driven carbon capture plant. The experiments were carried out using DTU’s carbon capture plant, located at Ørsted, a biomass-based power plant, in Skærbæk Denmark.
