Advances in gasification for sythesis gas production

Electrification of Biomass Gasification via Steam Plasma Technology, Utilizing CO2, and Proof of Power-to-x Concept

Short Introductive summary

This study focuses on gasifying biomass material, specifically sewage sludge, using Steam Plasma and the subsequent recovery of mineral materials. The process involves the conversion of biomass into syngas (comprising hydrogen and carbon monoxide) along with the retrieval of minerals. Notably, this gasification method is carbon dioxide-free, making it compatible with surplus renewable electricity, thereby substantiating the Power to X concept. Despite facing multiple critical challenges, this innovative approach holds the potential to become a commercially viable technology in the future. The plasma gasification aspect of this research was conducted at the Institute of Plasma Physics in Prague. At the same time, the material characterization took place at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague. This collaborative effort aims to advance our understanding of biomass gasification, mineral recovery, and their collective applications in sustainable energy systems.
