Exploring the Benefits of Task-Specific Alternative Solvents in the Development of Sustainable Downstream Processes for Algae Biorefineries

Short Introductive summary

In this work we will present the ongoing work on the development of sustainable downstream processes to valorize algae. in this work, the focus will be posed to the use of eco-solvents, namely ionic liquids and eutectic solvents, as task-specific solvents to create sustainable algal biorefineries. this work focus the recovery and purification of phycobilipotiens (colorants present in red Macroalgae and some cyanobacteria) and mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs), natural UV-filters also produced by red Macroalgae and microalgae. in this work, not only the processes developed by using eco-solvents will be approached but also some of the most interesting applications for the products obtained from algal biomass will be presented.
