Synergistic Deconstruction of Industrial Hemp Hurds Using Combined MAAP-IVDV Pretreatments for Enhanced Sugar Recovery

Short Introductive summary

This study aims to enhance bioethanol production from lignocellulosic biomass using cellulose-rich industrial hemp residues. It proposes a two-step strategy combining Microwave-Assisted Acid Pretreatment (MAAP) with a thermomechanical decompression process (IVDV). MAAP induces chemical weakening through partial hemicellulose solubilization, while IVDV causes intense mechanical disruption of the biomass structure. The sequential combination produces a strong synergistic effect, increasing the reducing sugar yield up to 84.6%. Overall, this approach significantly improves cellulose accessibility and represents an efficient and sustainable pathway for biomass valorization.
