Sustainable Conversion of Lignocellulosic Biomass into High Value-Added Bio-Based Materials Via Mechanochemical and Catalytic Pathways Supporting Circular Valorisation of Lignocellulosic Waste Streams

Short Introductive summary

Within the scope of this presentation, I will discuss a project BIOVALSA in which mechanochemistry was applied to activate lignin facilitating the subsequent fractionation of lignocellulosic biomass into three distinct streams (celulose, lignin and hemicelulose) and NEXT-STEP, which is a European research and innovation project that aims to develop a new bio-based chemical platform from sustainable lignocellulosic feedstocks. Its main goal is to produce new building blocks for safer, more sustainable and more circular polymers. The project focuses especially on advanced PLA-based materials and non-isocyanate polyurethanes (NIPUs).
